Home > Pioneers Award

Sewa involves performing an act of kindness without expectation of reward. It is performed selflessly and without ulterior motive. Whilst this is the inherent nature of sewa, The Sewa Pioneers Awards programme recognises pioneering social service projects that create a positive impact on local communities and act as a catalyst to inspire further selfless action in others.

Whilst sewa is a universal age-old concept, Sewa Day, challenges groups to initiate dynamic, sustainable projects that truly shine light on the beauty of the sewa concept.

On Sewa Day, thousands of good-hearted people across the world come together to perform sewa, and experience the joy of giving in its truest sense. We invite groups who are participating in Sewa Day to submit their projects for recognition.

Submissions are invited in two categories:

  • Schools – 5 awards
  • Voluntary groups – 5 awards

All winning projects will receive:

  • A Sewa Pioneers commendation trophy
  • A Sewa Pioneers kitemark for your website (where applicable)
  • A profile piece on your project on the Sewa Day website

So, commit yourself to making a difference and submit a project for your team to be recognised as a Sewa Pioneer!

Our criteria are simple; each project that is submitted for a Sewa Pioneers Award should be based on at least one of the following guiding principles:

  1. To help relieve hardship and poverty
  2. To bring a little joy to others
  3. To help the environment

We will evaluate each project against the following criteria:

Does the application demonstrate the group has organised & implemented an activity with thought, consideration, and to their best ability?

Results delivered from the day, testimonials, number of volunteers, number of beneficiaries etc.

What happens to the project or the volunteers after Sewa Day?

Did the activity have an outstanding feature that sets it apart from others – either in terms of effort or the outcome which has been achieved?

Teams can submit their own projects for recognition or projects can be nominated by others who feel that a Sewa Day project is worthy of recognition.

An independent panel of judges will assess all projects, and winning projects will be declared at the Sewa Pioneers Award.
